Does God Care About Me?
There are different times and circumstances in our lives that will cause us to consider whether God cares about us. “Does God care about what happens to me?” “Does He care about what I am going through?” “Does He care how I live my life?” Let’s search the Scriptures to see what we can find out about God’s care for us.
1) God cares enough to give you life. Why would a God who did not care give you life? For, He created all life (Genesis 1:26-27; Acts 17:28). And, not only did God care enough to give you physical life, but He cared enough to create you in a special way (Psalm 139:14). So, you have been created in a unique way and have been created in the image of God (as a spiritual being). This means that you have been given dominion over the rest of God’s physical creation, can have a relationship with God, and will survive physical death by your spiritual existence.
2) God cares enough to sustain your life. Why would a God who did not care about you continue to sustain your earthly life? You see, God cares what you do with your earthly life and gives you the opportunity to use your life to His honor and glory. In fact, God could send Jesus at any moment that you sin and end your opportunity to repent. But, He gives you the opportunity to repent and live for Him because He does not want you to perish in your sins (2 Peter 3:9-10).
3) God cares enough to bless you physically. Why would a God who did not care about you bless you with physical blessings? While God does not bless everyone with the same amount physically, you should consider what God has given you throughout your earthly life (i.e. food, drink, clothing, housing, employment, family, etc.). He is the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17)! But, don’t think these blessings are given just so you can enjoy life. Rather, recognize that God desires His kindness to lead you to repentance (Romans 2:4).
4) God cares enough to invite you to cast all your cares on Him. Why would a God who did not care about you give you the opportunity to cast your cares on Him? God knows there are many difficulties and worries people experience throughout their lives. However, He does not force you to go through these situations alone. Instead, He makes strength available through Jesus (Philippians 4:13). And, it is only in Jesus that you can have the confidence that God will hear your prayers and know that your prayers are powerful (James 5:16). Through prayer, God invites you to cast your worries, anxieties, and cares on Him because He cares about you (1 Peter 5:7; Philippians 4:6-7).
5) God cares enough to send His Son to die for you. Why would a God who did not care about you send His Son to earth to watch Him be mistreated and put to death? God only made such a sacrifice because of His great love for you so that you can be saved from your sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-11)! In fact, you need to appreciate that you would be hopelessly lost in your sins without the sacrifice God made for you (Ephesians 2:1-3). Thankfully, God cared enough for you to give His one and only Son as the sacrifice to save you so He might show His grace on you (Ephesians 2:4-10).
6) God cares enough to give you His word. Why would a God who did not care about you tell you how to live so you can be saved eternally? God knows you will stand before Him and be judged for how you have lived on earth (2 Corinthians 5:10). But, if He did not care for you, He would not have told you anything about how you need to live so you can be with Him for eternity. Yet, God desires for you to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) and has told you everything you need to know about living to please Him in the pages of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17)!
Does God care about you? Yes, He cares! These are just some points that demonstrate God’s care for you. In fact, no one else has ever demonstrated this much care for you – not even yourself! While you conducted your life in ways that would result in spiritual destruction, God cared enough to give you the opportunity to be saved through His Son Jesus Christ (John 15:13-14). Now, you must care enough about God to live according to His instructions!
