Be Confident That Jesus Is The Son Of God
Text: Luke 3:21-22
Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River. When He was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended on Him in the form of a dove. Then, the voice of the Father declared Jesus to be His beloved Son with whom He is well-pleased. After this, Luke records the genealogy of Jesus. In the genealogical record, it is demonstrated that Jesus came through the lineage of David, Judah, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Noah, Seth, and Adam (among others). Therefore, all that was happening through Jesus’s life, baptism, and even lineage demonstrated He really is the Son of God.
Although the genealogies that are recorded in the Bible can often be a bit tedious for us to read, they are actually of vital importance to the story. As detailed records were kept by the Jews and great significance was assigned to the physical ancestry of a person, these records are now applied to demonstrate that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah God sent into this world. For, God had given specific prophecies concerning the physical ancestry through whom God would send the Messiah (i.e. Abraham, Judah, David). And, Jesus fulfilled each one! So, as was declared by the Father at His baptism, Jesus really is the Son of God!
Today’s response to hearing God’s word is this: Be confident that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is the only one who has ever checked all the boxes God has given concerning His Son. Particularly, the latter part of Luke 3 gives us two proofs that Jesus is the Son of God and Messiah. First, God testified of this fact directly at His baptism. Second, Jesus’s physical ancestry qualifies Him as the one God had promised to send into this world. Therefore, you can have no doubts Jesus is the Son of God who you can and must put your trust in for salvation!
