Trust That God Will Forgive You
Text: Psalm 103:10-13
Throughout this psalm, David rejoices in the fact that God extends His faithful/steadfast love, mercy, and grace to those who sin. Though all violate the will of God at some point, God does not close the door to them. Instead, God’s compassion and love are pictured as being as high above the earth as the heavens. Furthermore, when He removes sin from the one who is guilty of it, He does not put a small divide in place; but places it as far from the sinner as the east is from the west. For, like a father who has compassion on His children, so God has compassion on those who fear Him. However, throughout this psalm, this forgiveness is conditioned by the fact that the sinner now fears God and will keep God’s covenant and obey Him.
It can be easy to think that God will not forgive you for what you have done and how you have lived in the past. Perhaps you have come to believe that it is impossible for God to love you or show forgiveness to you. Yet, that is simply not the God who is pictured in this psalm! Instead, such a reaction is the result of human thinking and how unwilling people are to forgive. You see, while people are often unwilling to forgive or have limits to their forgiveness, God is always willing to forgive and has no limits to His forgiveness.
Today’s response to hearing God’s word is this: Trust that God will forgive you. Trust what God says about His love and compassion enough that you will find comfort and hope in the offer of God’s forgiveness. Humble yourself before God so that you will come to Him for the forgiveness He offers and allow Him to mold you and use you in His service. For, God does not desire people who do not see their need for Him, but those who truly depend on Him. So, fear God and determine that you will keep His covenant to make Him your God and obey His commands!
